It all goes well, until the question „Why should we hire you?” ..doesn’t it? When it comes to job interviews, there are several questions that are one of the major reasons why your job interview does not provide the results that are in your best interests.

One such question is: “Why should we hire you?” Knowing your strenghts, your skills and presenting them in a professional way is what differentiates you from the other candidates, what makes you the best candidate and not just another good one.

When you are already scheduled for an interview, it means that the recruiter considers you have the hard skills required. What you have to do is to show him that you did not just put some fancy job titles and descriptions in your resume, but let him know a few things about your experience in former working places. What will differentiate you from other candidates with similar education and experience are the soft skills.

  • Be authentic. What you like and don’t like are equally important.

It is very important for the employer to know you as person, not as a bunch of skills and competences. If you prove yourself suitable for the job, they might want to keep you motivated so it is very important to help them know you, your interests, your likes and dislikes, so that their efforts in keeping you motivated will not be in vain.

  • Everyone’s excellent at something. What are you excellent at?

Sometimes, your hobbies might be more useful than you imagine. If you are thinking about a job in marketing or PR and you are passionate about Photoshop or Illustrator, you might want to mention that because it could be useful even if it is not in the job description.

  • Show your depth of knowledge.

Even if the interviewer is the Manager looking for a Junior or the HR of the company, you do not have to hesitate using technical terms. Adapting your language to the job you want will not only convince them that you know what you are talking about, but will also show them the level of knowledge.

  • Wear your passion. They want to see your eyes light up.

Different people have different motivations and sometimes it can happen that you see that job oportunity different than others. What you have to show the interviewer is that you find your motivation in the job description itself. Enjoying your job will make your work more efficient and „infecting” others with your enthuziasm will make you a „keeper”.

In the end, as you might know already most companies hire the person, not the position. Do not be afraid of showing who you are, emphasizing both personal and professional qualities. Sometimes, you might not have all the hard skills required but your enthuziasm and determination will make them want to invest in you and keep you around.

  1. According to the topic “Why should I hire you? I think it is right, the like and not like things show to the interviewer your interestes, ambitions and your way to solve problems.
For exampel: I am very efficient in all the things I do therefore I do not like to waist my time. If I exercise, I had to prepare first with all the things that I need. Water, clothes, energymeal, motivation, etc. If I make a cake, I have prepared all the ingredients and followed the formula precise.
This mindset brought me many sucess in my career vision and life.
I am excellent for learning fast. During my college and univerity I had not been worried for the exams or homeworks, and it was because the teachers explanations was enough for me..I had not studied again…I was ready for the text or to solve the mathematics exercises.
I am excellent to focus in the problem, identifying root cause, and follow the solve in a correct way.
I am very passionate to solve thermodymanics exercises. for me it counts like a challenge…I like to be competitive through solving more and more things, but it is important for me to the others recognize my talent and my job.

  2. I 100% agree with your analysis.
If a candidate is authentic, it allows a “real” discussion with the recruiter. The interview will not just be a technical interview where the candidates tries to convince he fills the specifications, but a real talk between two human beings might take place. And that makes all the difference …
